Banquet

Plans the Annual Scholarship Banquet.

Continuing Legal Education (CLE)

Contacts Florida Bar to get CLE credit approval for eligible seminars/presentations; Recommends and implements CLE eligible topics, seminars, presentations, etc.

Membership & Hospitality Comittee

Conducts membership drives; Gathers and maintains current information on active members; Acknowledges and extends courtesies to members for special occasions (i.e., birthday, wedding, funeral, birth of a child, professional accomplishments and recognitions, etc); Coordinates lunch for general meetings; Coordinates hospitality for association events upon request

"Pulse"

Recommends specific activities/initiatives, which will promote greater awareness and commitment to the civil and political issues of the Black community (i.e., economics, education, health, etc.); Strives to make the American legal community more responsive to Black lawyers and the Black community.

Fundraising Comittee

Solicits financial support from corporate and private sponsors for the organization’s activities

AD HOC COMMITTEES

Bylaws Comittee

Reviews bylaws and make recommendations for amendments thereto.

Public Relations Comittee

Prepares press releases for all activities and programs; prepares marketing material for all activities and programs

PROGRAMS

 

Partnerships/Networking

Forms partnerships and serves as liaison between other professional organizations; Recommends joint activities which will provide association members the opportunity to increase their practice by networking with other professionals

Professionalism & Practice Building

Develops and coordinates seminars, presentations, etc., that will foster and encourage professional excellence and will develop, enhance, and expand the skills and practice of association members

Website

Recommends initial design for website; Gathers information to be placed on website; Oversees the design and construction of the website

PUBLIC/COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAMS

 

Adopt-a-School Mentor Program

Mentor 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students at Sunland Park Elementary

F.O.C.U.S. Mentor Program

Mentor "cross-over" juveniles (youth who have cases in both the dependency and delinquency systems)

Legal Advice Clinics

Conduct pro bono seminars throughout Broward county on various legal issues (i.e., housing, criminal, health care, family, business, wills, etc.)

NAACP Legal Redress Clinics

Provide pro bono legal advice on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month to persons who attend the clinic

Scholarships

Award scholarships to high school graduates and students at Nova Law School

Senior Citizen Project

Conduct public service project(s) for Broward county senior citizens

Youth Tours-Law Week

Provide tours that will give Broward county youth, especially minorities, the opportunity to tour the courthouse, crime lab and other legal agencies
